Hans Peter Nielsen was born 3 Feb 1862 in Gerlev, Denmark, son of Niels Nielsen and Karen Olsen. His mother died in Denmark when he was 4. His father remarried--his mother's sister. The family joined the LDS Church in 1870 and immigrated to Utah. They had 3 children when they left Denmark.

Niels and family settled in Spring City, Utah where Niels Peter grew up. In 1883 James Willard Munson (1843-1928) leased a farm in Chester, Utah & hired Hans Peter to work for him. He was married to Margaret Bridget Allred (1866-1934), James Munson's wife's sister whom they had raised, in 1884. They were married in Salt Lake's Endowment House, making the trip with Thomas Hayward and Eliza Bridget Munson. After the marriage Hans Peter worked for James Munson for a while then in 1888 he leased the Niels Thompson farm in Chester, living there for about 5 years then moving to Spring City. They again leased the Thompson farm in 1897. By this time they had 5 children. Hans Peter a few years later became very ill with pneumonia and died 7 June 1899. He is buried in the Spring City Cemetery.
