The Greene family were one of the first families of Rhode Island. Among some of the most notable members of the family were Maj. Gen. Nathaniel Greene, who was Gen. George Washington's best strategist. The first Greene in the American Colonies was John Greene , who was a co-founder of Warwick, Rhode Island.
