George Brain was born 1840 in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire, England, United Kingdom to Thomas Brain (1815-1854) and Maria Butler (1818-1848) and died 1 May 1868 Shahjehanpore, Bengal, India of unspecified causes. He married Robina Scott (1839-1908) in Sri Lanka.

George Brain was born in 1840 in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire. After his mother died in 1848 and father in 1854 and his siblings went elsewhere, George joined the Oxford Militia in about 1856. He then joined the Scottish Borderers in Dover, Kent in 1860. He is on the 1861 census in Aldershot, Surrey. In July 1863 he set sail for Ceylon, and married Robina Scott there sometime inbetween 1863 and 1867. George died in Shahjehanpore, Bengal in 1868 and Robina remarried and later emigrated to Australia.
