Variants are Culdice, Guldice, and Goldice. Persons of these surnames are invariably descendnts of the Hessian privste Johann Phillip Goldeiss of the 1st company of the Ansbach-Bayreuth Regiment. He was among those taken prisoner Oct. 19, 1781 at Yorktown. He is believed to have been sent to a prisoner of war camp at Reading, PA. In June 1783 he was listed as absent (deserted). Subsequently, he settled in an area of Hardy Co., VA (now Grant Co.,WV) with a wife Elizabeth. He appears there under the surname Goldizen. Some of his descendants removed to Darke and Greene counties, OH. The original German surname was probably Kalteis.

I have assembled a partial list of his descendants. If interested, e-mail me.
