Rootsweb Message Board: Goldizen

T. Grant Mapl... (View posts) Posted: 2 Nov 2002 10:06PM GMT Classification: Query Surnames: Goldizen, Goldeiss, Culdice, Cultice, Guldice, Gultice The surname Cultice is extremely unique. Variants are Culdice, Guldice, and Goldice. Persons of these surnames are invariably descendnts of the Hessian privste Johann Phillip Goldeiss of the 1st company of the Ansbach-Bayreuth Regiment. He was among those taken prisoner Oct. 19, 1781 at Yorktown. He is believed to have been sent to a prisoner of war camp at Reading, PA. In June 1783 he was listed as absent (deserted). Subsequently, he settled in an area of Hardy Co., VA (now Grant Co.,WV) with a wife Elizabeth. He appears there under the surname Goldizen. Some of his descendants removed to Darke and Greene counties, OH. The original German surname was probably Kalteis.

I have assembled a partial list of his descendants. If interested, e-mail me.
