Introduction

The Peize wiki is an ambitious Dutch-language project documenting three centuries of a town in Drenthe: people, streets, land records, "foto's". The majority of its 2,100 articles are "person" pages similar to many of ours though with hardly any biographical detail except the plain statements (most of which even I can understand) about dates and places of birth, death, marriage; spouses; children. Some have references to property and census and similar records. I helped with it for a while, correcting and adding categories etc.

However, activity has plummeted since the second-best contributor died a year ago at age 74. The top (and only other significant) registered contributor, Peize-born founder User:Harm, has not edited in the last 4 months and made only a dozen edits in the previous 11 months, although he is still active on the Dutch Wikipedia. I fear that he has lost the initial enthusiasm. So I'm copying the person pages to a wiki where keen genealogists can integrate and enhance them in a fully genealogical environment. I'm wide open to offers of help.

Categories

The existing pages have few if any categories; on the minority that are categorised, it's mostly just surname, birth year, and death year. I'm not copying any categories over, because we would have to change every one.

So they need categories, eventually. One of our newer stalwarts has made a start: http://genealogy.wikia.com/index.php?title=Albert_Arkies_%281924%29&diff=0&oldid=233350

That's three categories. But we want surname and various event years categorised too. Suggests to me that another Peize template (or two) could save heaps of time. Similar to {{categories}}.

I recommend that people hold off adding categories until all the pages have come over. Each one I copy gets the standard acknowledgment {{peize}} (which includes Category:Articles in Dutch) and gets names and places turned into links, but seldom anything else. They can sit on our site like that indefinitely if necessary, until we find an efficient way to categorise them. It may involve giving them all info pages.

The info pages work with whatever they are given. Maybe you mean that if we want categories based on the English form of the name, we must put that form on the info page, not the Dutch form if different? — Robin Patterson (Talk) 13:03, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Page naming comvention

The page naming standard has full name and (in parentheses) birth year, matching User:Phlox's standard pagename, which is quite widely used here. I don't see any need to add death year except to avoid ambiguity. Time could be better spent getting the articles onto the wiki, into year, place, and surname categories, and enhanced with the occasional ahnentafel.
