Forums: Index > Watercooler > Navigation: Page-top menus

Part of Wikia's new look. See Help:Wiki navigation.

We are allowed only four individual-wiki menu headings across the top, whereas the left-hand sidebar that it replaces had no limit. Each drop-down menu can have seven links.

What we have[]

Current menus are:

Mmmmmm - I thought I was copying just ten words, but you get the lot. Pardon my French. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:57, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Suggested changes[]

"Introduction"[]

Could be some logic in putting it first, and it can have much more than one item on it. Ideas? — Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:57, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

First two menus - creating articles[]

I wonder whether we should merge the first two, with a heading that stresses their importance; one recent contributor knew a bit about wikis and therefore assumed that he didn't need any kind of help creating articles, then charged into Form:Person without Firefox. And I like the word "verbose" but it would be better changed to "advanced" to match other text and the template name. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:57, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Links to five indexes[]

I doubt if we need the third menu because our main page virtually repeats it near the top. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:57, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Replacements[]

I think we should instead have a link to the forums, because I want users to refer to the forums more often than most do. It helps keep up with the play, now that we don't have the old sitenotice at the top of every page (and, as mentioned elsewhere, its replacement can be found only in a corner of the page you reach from "Wiki Activity"). — Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:57, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
