Many months passed, and we got 50 bright new state pages and nearly 4,000 lovely county pages with the help of User:PhloxBot and some rather painless copying from Wikipedia. Prominent at the top of each county page is a great genealogy-related navigation box. Again several months passed with no discussion. One matter mentioned above is now on another forum Forum:County-based categories. State categories are being slowly populated with categories derived from the county level, such as :Category:Cemeteries in Ohio and :Category:Resided in Ohio. That process may be speeded up now that it is so easy to create many of those county-level specific-subject categories; see the original template in the set: Template:Born in UK. And anyone interested in a particular state should look at its category to see what's there (including images) that may lead to an addition to the state article. Introduction[]

I'm drafting U.S. state/Model state page. When some of you have commented, I'll create pages for the 40-odd states that still don't have a page and I will use it to augment or vary the ones that do.

The same process can apply to other countries, with suitable amendments to that model.

LATER - Nobody has contributed here since July. Maybe some newcomers have ideas (and maybe the oldtimers didn't notice it - should I have mentioned it on the mailing list?) Incidentally, I may invite help from User:PhloxBot when the format reaches consensus. Robin Patterson 00:40, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Many months passed, and we got 50 bright new state pages and nearly 4,000 lovely county pages with the help of User:PhloxBot and some rather painless copying from Wikipedia. Prominent at the top of each county page is a great genealogy-related navigation box. See Template talk:Navbox county1-en for improvements related to that but also an expression of concern that the county pages aren't in county categories. So we don't have ideal linkages to state categories. Overcoming that may be done in tandem with devising brilliant ideas for improving the state model - but reciprocally some of the state model ideas (such as the Cyndi's List ref) may be added to the county pages. Again several months passed with no discussion. One matter mentioned above is now on another forum Forum:County-based categories. State categories are being slowly populated with categories derived from the county level, such as Category:Cemeteries in Ohio and Category:Resided in Ohio. That process may be speeded up now that it is so easy to create many of those county-level specific-subject categories; see the original template in the set: Template:Born in UK. And anyone interested in a particular state should look at its category to see what's there (including images) that may lead to an addition to the state article.
