(First paragraph copied from my talk page. This is a better place to deal with it because there are more than three of us affected by this and because it can be specifically categorized here.Robin Patterson (Talk) 10:32, August 20, 2010 (UTC) )

Both {{locality}} and {{infobox UK place}} set up properties for places. Of course, the properties have different names. Can you kindly make a decision which names are better? Thurstan slightly prefers those by Phlox in {{infobox UK place}}. rtol 10:11, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

As I've said on its talk page, the UK (plus Isle of Man) one seems unnecessarily complex for Familypedia at this stage. The general-purpose world-wide {{locality}} matches our input forms and could be enough until they are perfected. Conversions to a more complex set of location definitions should be achievable by bot when finally ready to be done. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 02:27, September 8, 2010 (UTC)
There is also unnecessary duplication between our pages and those of Wikipedia. Wikipedia pages will be maintained but will ours? There are also many redlinks and missing templates. All looks very messy. I say keep it simple! rtol 13:50, September 8, 2010 (UTC)

2018 update[]

Things have progressed since the above discussions took place. (And Mr Tol is presumably pleased that we have copied and sometimes adapted those missing templates and reduced the redlinks.) The standard "person" form invites users to define up to six types of place, from "places-other" such as farm, castle and cemetery all the way up to "nation", and there have been tweaks along the way. Properties with names ending in "_place" are compiled from those six and used in the main infoboxes as well as displays such as the "minibio" and the bdm subpages, while properties ending in "_location" help with searching for people connected with a place even if the place was entered in the "wrong" field!

Serious work has begun on making {{Showfacts residences}} display tables of places people lived at. Familypedia:Residences template hints at it. Please look if interested.

Nine years of part-time volunteer work has left a few probably unwanted properties, such as those with names ending in "_country" and "_subdivision". Anyone think that they are wanted? And are there others that come to mind? If we collect a list we may be able to use a bot to do a quick purge.
