Sommers family

• Benjamin Sommers (c.1635-1715), he immigrated from Yorkshire or Hertfordshire, England first settling in Northampton, Virginia and panted 300 acres of land which he named "Emmessex." On 23 Sep 1683 he panted 200 more acres of land which he named "Musketa Hummock," which were both located in what is now Crisfield, Maryland. He further panted another 100 acres of land which he named it "Little Worth." He panted in total 550 acres which would become know as Somers Cove before it became Crisfield. Somers Cove quickly became a seafood town and has been ever since. The ancestral home of the family was in Yorkshire and Hertfordshire, England where the name was spelled Somers.
