Hyrum Ozro Gardner, father of ex-mayor Archie O. Gardner, died at his home in Delta at the age of 80, Friday from heart attack. He was born in Mill Creek in 1862, a son of Robert and Jane McKeown Gardner and moved to St. George with his parents when a youth and from there to Pine Valley. He married Maryetta Snow in 1883.

He lived for a while in Provo where his children went to school and later came to Delta where for years he had been a successful stockman and farmer. For many years he was a member of the Washington County school board and at the time of his death was a high priest. His wife preceded him in death about three months ago.

He is survived by four sons, Archie O. Gardner, ex-mayor and now county commissioner; Fenton S. Gardner, both of Delta; Rex Gardner of St. George and Reed S. Gardner of Berkeley, Cal.; also a daughter Margaret Gardner of Delta. There are 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Also six brothers and five sisters. Mr. Gardner was a man of high character and great worth. He had made a pronounced success in his life and leaves a record of which his family may well be proud.

Funeral services were held in Delta under the direction of Orvil Jeffery. Opening song "Abide with Me" by the Delta First Ward Choir; opening prayer by Bishop Anthony Stephenson; song "Oh My Father" by the choir; address by M. Ward Moody; violin solo by Norma Hannifin, accompanied by Norma Wright; address by Wayne Gardner of St. George, solo by Ladd Cropper, accompanied by May Cropper; address by James Steele; remarks by Orvil Jeffery; closing song "Behold Tis Even Tide" by the choir; closing prayer by John I. Pratt. Burial was at the Delta cemetery and Bishop Malin Cox dedicated the grave.
