Groups of genealogists and family historians can work together on projects devoted to particular aspects of their studies. Wikipedia calls such groups "WikiProjects". Our system of namespaces differs from Wikipedia's, and we need not use quite as many words in page names: we can use the "project" namespace, which automatically produces page names starting with "Familypedia:". Other page names can be used, but the above is the simplest in most cases.

Anyone starting a project, or wanting more users to look at it, should mention it in a new or existing Watercooler item.

Categories of projects can use the Wikipedia category names for convenience of copying and easy comparison.

Extracts from Wikipedia:Wikipedia:WikiProject[]

"A WikiProject is a collection of pages devoted to the management of a specific topic or family of topics within Wikipedia; and, simultaneously, a group of editors that use said pages to collaborate on encyclopedic work. It is not a place to write encyclopedia articles directly, but a resource to help coordinate and organize article writing and editing.

"Despite the name, the purpose of Wikipedia:WikiProject is concerned not with project management, but the daily management, administration and editor support of the process of article creation, editing and completion.

"The attached talk pages are a convenient forum for those interested in a particular project."
