The Everton Genealogy Collection is a noncirculating collection of genealogy and locality history specific items that is currently part of the Logan Library in Logan, Utah. It includes an estimated 80,000 books, serials, pamphlets, compact discs, microfilms, atlases, maps, databases, and more. A large portion consists of unpublished manuscripts that are rare or unique to the collection. The materials in the collection relate to every state in the United States as well as the District of Columbia. While the focus is on the United States, there are some very interesting and useful resources for other nations as well.
History[edit | edit source]
The Everton Genealogy Collection was begun in 1947 by Walter Everton when he established the Everton Publishing Company. He and his successors in the company gathered items one at a time to be included in this collection. Some were donated, but most were added when they were sent to be reviewed in their magazine, The Genealogical Helper. Over the course of nearly sixty years, the collection gradually grew to its present size.
In 2001, the publishing company was purchased by the Family History Network, Inc. and in 2004, then owner Bill Schjelderup, donated the collection to Logan City, Utah. In October 2006 the collection finally opened to the public. Librarian Jason E. Cornelius now works daily to provide reference services to patrons of the collection and better organize the collection. Though much work remains to be done inventorying and cataloging the collection, it is currently being used by patrons researching their ancestry.
Location[edit | edit source]
Because of space limitations in the library, the Everton Genealogy Collection is not located in the main library building. Instead, it is located across the courtyard from the Logan Library in the Logan Justice building located at 290 North 100 West in Logan, Utah.
