Ernest Augustus, Duke of York and Albany, Duke of York and Albany, Earl of Ulster, Fürstbischof von Osnabrück, was born 7 September 1674 in Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany to Ernst August von Braunschweig-Calenberg (1629-1698) and Sophie von der Pfalz (1630-1714) and died 14 August 1728 Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany of unspecified causes.

Ernest, Duke of York and Albany (Ernest Augustus 7 September 1674–14 August 1728) was the youngest (fifth) son of Ernest Augustus, Elector of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Sophia of the Palatinate and a younger brother of King George I of Great Britain.

On in 1716 he visited England after the accession of George I, and on 29 June 1716 was created Duke of York and Albany and Earl of Ulster. On 3 July 1716 he was created a Knight of the Garter together with his great-nephew Frederick, later Prince of Wales.

He returned to Germany, and lived there as Prince-Bishop of Osnabrück, conferred 2 March 1716, till his death in 1728. The fact of his existence was scarcely known to the majority of the British nation.[DNB 1][1]
