Eliza Ann Dibble Jackson Spencer was born 18 August 1829 in Chardon, Geauga County, Ohio, 1891 to Philo Dibble (1806-1895) and Cecelia Kent (1803-1840) and died 14 May 1891 Richmond, Cache County, Utah of unspecified causes. She married Orson Spencer (1802-1855) 15 January 1846 in Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois. She married Henry Wells Jackson (1827-1864) 3 February 1850 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. She married Julius Augustus Caesar Austin (1810-1903) 3 October 1865 in Centerville, Davis County, Utah.

Biography

Eliza Ann Dibble was born on August 18, 1829, in Chardon, Geauga, Ohio, to Philo Dibble and Celia Kent.



Marriage & Family

1st Marriage: ORson Spencer

Eliza was briefly married to Orson Spencer, though Brigham Young later canceled the marriage.


2nd Marriage: Henry Wells Jackson

She married second, Henry Wells Jackson (1827-1864), a veteran of the Mormon Battalion, Gold miner, pony express rider and Utah's only casualty in the U.S. Civil War.


She married Henry Wells Jackson on February 3, 1850, in Salt Lake City. The couple settled in Tooele in 1850, and their first son, William Henry Jackson, was born there on December 1, 1850. Three of their five children lived to adulthood. They moved to Centerville, Utah, to San Bernardino, California, and back to Centerville. Henry Jackson delivered mail between Salt Lake City and Placerville, California. In 1861 he traveled to Washington, D.C., to collect his back pay. There he served as a wagon master for the Union but was captured by Confederate forces. After being a prisoner of war, he was exchanged for Union forces and decided to volunteer as a lieutenant for the 1st DC Cavalry. On May 8, 1864, he was mortally wounded while trying to take a Confederate railroad bridge. He was transferred to Chesapeake Hospital, also known as Officers’ General Hospital, Fort Monroe, Virginia, where he died from his wounds.

3rd Marriage

I was left with three young children. Brigham Young suggested Julius Augustus Ceaser Austin marry and support me since his wife had also died. On May 27, 1864. Eliza married Julius Augustus Caesar Austin on October 3, 1865. He and my 14 year old son didn't get along. They moved to Paris, Idaho. Life was hard in Bear Lake Valley, Julius rationed our meager food. I was homesick. We separated before our only child was born. I returned to my parents home and later moved to Richmond, Utah. She died on May 14, 1891.
