Biography

Elias Cheney was a farmer by occupation who lived in Thornton NH. He was married twice.

  1. Moses Cheney (1793-1875) - was an abolitionist and a conductor on the Underground Railroad. He had two famous sons. Person Colby Cheney (1828-1901), 35th Governor of New Hampshire and Oren Burbank Cheney (1816-1903), founder of Bates College.
