Very little is known of Edward’s early life. He was born in Uley, Gloucestershire in 1781 where he married Christiana Eastmead in 1811. He was a labourer in the 1841 census and by 1851 (aged 70) he was a Grocer and his wife a Grocer's Assistant. Also, in the 1851 Census Edward and Christiana had two grandsons staying with them, John Price (aged 13) and Thomas Price (aged 11) but no trace of Mary, their mother, in the Census records for Uley or the surrounding villages? Sometime after the 1851 Census Edward and his wife moved to the neighbouring town of Dursley, Gloucestershire, 3.5 miles (5.6 Km) from Uley.
