Dougall MacDougall, 1st of Garthland was born in Scotland and died 1308 in Scotland of unspecified causes.
In 1295 he had a charter from his kinsman, King John I Balliol, of the lands of Garochloyne ('joyful tufted mount', the ancient designation of the feudal barony of Garthland), Lougan, Elrig, and others on the Rhinns of Galloway. He was invested as a Knight in 1307 by King Edward I for the capture at Loch Ryan of Thomas and Alexander.
