Cuttack district is one of the 30 districts in Odisha state in eastern India. Its administrative headquarters is the city of Cuttack. As of 2011 it is the second most populous district of Odisha (out of 30), after Ganjam.

The district covers an area of 3932 km². The district has a population of 2,341,984 (2001 Census).
Divisions[edit | edit source]
This district was subdivided into 15 Tehsils and 14 Revenue Blocks.
The Tehsils are Cuttack, Niali, Salipur, Tangi-Chowdwar, Mahanga, Kishannagar, Athgarh, Baramba, Narasinghpur, Tigiria, Banki, Baranga, Kantapada, Nischintakoili, Damapada. The last four are new Tehsils created in 2008.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
According to the 2011 census Cuttack district has a population of 2,618,708, roughly equal to the nation of Kuwait or the US state of Nevada. This gives it a ranking of 156th in India (out of a total of 640). The district has a population density of 666 inhabitants per square kilometre (1,720 /sq mi) . Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 11.86%. Cuttack has a sex ratio of 955 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 84.2%.
