Christina Scherz was born 8 August 1825 in Gyula, Békés County, Southern Great Plain Region, Hungary to Joseph Scherz (c1780-c1840) and Katalin Müller (c1800-1825) and died 31 August 1849 Szabadkígyós, Békés County, Southern Great Plain Region, Hungary of unspecified causes.

Christina Scherz was the illegitimate child of Katalin Müller and of Joseph Scherz. Her mother died at childbirth and Christina was raised by the housekeeper of the Wenckheim family, who raised her so that she would later be able to fulfill the same duty. Count József Antal von Wenckheim, who was 67 years old, fell in love with her and asked her to marry him when she was 22 years old. The marriage ceremony in Újkígyós was attended by most of the local notables. However the marriage also generated discontent; Károly von Wenckheim (1811-1891), József Antal's nephew, who would have inherited the properties if József Antal died without direct heirs, was angry because he was losing the inheritance. He therefore sent József Antal, as wedding present, a hearse with two black horses and a note saying "You are not dead yet, but you should be.

Unfortunately, the new Countess died two years after her wedding. Count Wenckheim built Saint Anne's Chapel on the family property, which became the burying place of the family. Overcome by gried he also died two years later in Pest. His body was transported to Szabadkígyós and was buried next to his beloved wife in Saint Anne's chapel.
