Christene Johnson Hinckley was born 4 June 1870 in Provo, Utah County, Utah to Neils Johnson (1848-1936) and Caroline Josephine Mathia Johnson (1846-1917) and died 11 July 1908 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah of unspecified causes. She married Bryant Stringham Hinckley (1867-1961) 28 June 1893 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.
Biography
Christene Johnson was born 4 June 1870 in Provo, Utah to Caroline Josephine Mathia and Niels Johnson. Her parents were both converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who immigrated to America. After embracing the Gospel and joining the Church her father and older brother left Norway for Utah and they were never heard of after that. It is assumed that both lost their lives in the great Chicago fire. Later on, Josephine, her mother, a brother and a sister, left Norway for America. Josephine was nineteen years of age when she arrived in Utah. Two years later she married Niels Johnson, also an emigrant. He came to America with his parents when six years of age, crossing the plains to Utah with an ox team.
