When Lawrence Everett Hawkins and Edith Evelyn Cole decided to get married in 1931, they called on Charles W. Hawkins to perform the marriage. He was Lawrence's Uncle. Later, in 1944, Lawrence and Edith had a son born, and they decided to name him after the man who married them. This information was told to Charles E. Hawkins by his mother, Edith Evelyn (Cole) Hawkins when he was a teenager.
