He was not there in 1776 but is listed in the Tax Assessment Listing for 1778 of Cumberland Valley Township, Bedford Co., PA as Andrew Borland (young man). Again in 1779 Andrew is shown in the Bedford county tax list with 250 acres in Cumberland Valley township. Andrew was a private in the Revolution from Bedford County, PA, in his brother, Samuel's, company. About 1782, Andrew married Mary Evans. In 1784 Andrew is listed in the census with 125 acres in Cumberland Valley township, Bedford County, also shown are 1 dwelling and 3 whites. In 1796, Andrew bought the John Swearingen farm in Peter's township, Washington county, PA (History of Washington County, PA by Boyd Crumrine 1882). In 1800 he is listed in the Washington County census on page 73. In the taxable assessments list of 1800 for Peters Township appears Andrew Boreland, farmer. His will was written August 19, 1825 and probated May 23, 1827 in Washington County, PA, Will Book #4 page 274. The Executors were William Colwell and Mary Borland. The witnesses were John Caldwell and Joseph Moss. |
