Biography
Amel Filips Beijen was born in 1921 to Dirk Beijen (1898-1977) and Ariaantje Boers. Amel was the eldest of five children, two of them boys. His brother Dirk was born in 1924. Their sisters were born a year, eight years and eighteen years after Amel. Two are living, as is Dirk; the youngest died.
Amel married Anna Frederika Sijl in 1942. They had two children, a son and a daughter. Anna died in 2004 after sixty-two years of marriage. Amel moved into a care centre for the elderly and died on 13 January 2010 after a short illness in hospital for a week. He was aged eighty-eight.
