Nothing found about Alfred from the 1851 census or 1861.
Census and BMD records. Parents' birth years are merely estimated
1911 census and "In Q2 of 1860, Alfred Sherrard married Sarah Wright or Sarah Matthews (dau of James Matthews, Farmer, 26 June - Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland Archive reference DE2094/10) at Lutterworth - 7A/24"
In 1871, at King Street, St Mary, Leicester, the family had two servants living with them. In 1881, at 12, East Gates, Leicester St Martin, the two servants have gone, replaced by one servant, Harry seems to have replaced Alfred H - or was he Alfred Harry? - and all five children are "scholars", even the 19-year-old Annie. In 1891 there's no Alfred or Harry, Annie has become "Annie E", and the family are at Market Place, Leicester, with just one, youngish, servant. A Henry Alfred Sherrard is married in 1900 at Pancras. By 1901, when the parents had moved to 51 Brunswick Road, Hove, Steyning, Sussex, Annie was the only child living with them; one Sussex-born servant. An Alfred John Sherrard marries in 1902 at Christchurch, Hampshire. In 1911 the old folks have not moved again but have retired on their earnings, Annie is the "Aprtment House Keeper", and there's one (again local) servant, with two boarders. An Alfred B Sherrard marries in 1914 at Farnham, Surrey.
