He married Mary Miller (1852-1922) 1 June 1875 in "Watton Station", Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia.

Another pioneer was Alexander Eustace Piper, whose name is prominently associated with the early history of the west. He was 82 years of age. In his youthful days on the gold-diggings one of his associates was Ben Hall, but that was before Hall put himself out side the pale of the law.
They were well acquainted. Hall, as Piper knew him, was a strapping type of an Australian, quiet, unassuming, and law abiding At one social there was a preponderance of men, so Hall and Piper danced together.
